Overview

Modern shippers and consignees expect real-time visibility. They call your CS desk when your local team is at lunch, when your ops manager is on a plane, and when the vessel is 40 minutes out of Long Beach. Operanta's shipment tracking desk turns visibility from a reactive fire-drill into a proactive operational discipline. We monitor container and AWB tracking against 600+ carrier feeds, ingest EDI 315 status messages, cross-check port and terminal ETAs, and push milestone updates (ATD, ATA, gate-out, gate-in, delivered, PoD) into your TMS. When an exception happens — a rollover, a schedule change, a customs hold, a weather delay — the desk proactively notifies the shipper and consignee, escalates to your ops lead, and starts the demurrage-clock monitoring workflow.

Why shipment tracking belongs on a dedicated desk

Tracking is disciplined work that pays back in customer retention, demurrage avoidance and premium-service positioning. Left as a bolt-on task for the general operations coordinator, it slips. Given its own desk, it becomes a competitive differentiator. Our tracking specialists work 24/7 in follow-the-sun coverage, publish daily exception reports, and integrate directly into your customer service and ops workflows.

  • Coverage of 600+ ocean, air and inland carriers via EDI and portal feeds
  • 24/7 follow-the-sun coverage across UK, US, Canada, Australia and UAE time zones
  • Pro-active milestone update to your TMS and to your customer
  • Rollover, transshipment, weather-diversion and customs-hold triage
  • Demurrage / detention clock monitoring and cost-avoidance escalation
  • Weekly tracking exception report to your ops lead

Frequently asked questions

Do you use our tracking platform (Project44, Fourkites, etc.)?

Yes. Where you already have a tracking platform, our desk works inside your platform using your user licences. Where you do not, we can integrate carrier EDI or use portal scraping / manual capture.

How proactive is 'proactive'?

Every material milestone or exception is pushed to your TMS within 15 minutes of the event. Rollovers and holds are pushed to your customer within 30 minutes, per your SOP.

Do you monitor demurrage and detention?

Yes. Every containerised shipment has a demurrage / detention clock tracked from gate-out. Alerts are issued at day-1, day-3 and day-5 (or per your SOP) to enable pickup coordination and cost avoidance.

What time zones do you cover?

24/7 follow-the-sun. Most clients start with a follow-the-sun window covering their local business day plus overnight escalation.

How do you handle carriers without an EDI feed?

A blend of portal scraping (client-owned credentials only), scheduled email polling and manual capture. Every shipment has a defined data source in the SOP.
